Valencia Triathlon Gran Premio Ibercaja has new kings. After a great day on Saturday with the promotional distances, the Marina Real Juan Carlos I woke up on Sunday ready to welcome nearly 1400 athletes ready to compete in Olympic, Sprint and Paratrithlon.
Xavier Llobet was the first to cross the finish line a few minutes after 10:00 h. in 2:11:02. Llobet, who finished the race exhausted, won the Olympic distance after giving a exhibition in the running. His effort helped him to win and get the blue jersey as champion of Valencia Triathlon Gran Premio Ibercaja to the applause of many fans who don’t want to miss the second day of the TriGrandPrix competition.
In women, Fátima Maestre dominated clearly the Olympic distance and finished the race in 2:34:59. With these results, the athlete from C.T.H. Picassent achieved the position 131 in the overall classification.
PAMBLANCO AND VALLANCE, CHAMPIONS IN SPRINT
At 09:50 h. it was time to give the output to Sprint distance. With 750 m swim, 20 km bike and 5 km run in front of 1500 m swim, 40 km bike and 10 km run from the Olympic, more than 300 athletes, including paratriathletes, staged a thrilling race.
Vicente Pamblanco (Tripuçol), member of Valencia Triathlon team, won the competition in 1:03:29. This victory is the second achieved by the valencian in the TriGrandPrix european circuit, because in the month of July took first place in Kilkenny Triathlon.
Besides Pamblanco, Claire Vallance was the winner in the female category with a time of 1:13:51. She was 15th in the overall classification
PREMIERE OF PARATRIATHLON
Valencia Triathlon Gran Premio Ibercaja 2011 concludes with the Paratriathlon. This modality, including for the first time in the valencian test, was atended by Aguilar, Valeriano Moreno, Toni Franco, Juan Antonio Rodríguez, Juanjo López and a relay team consisting of Andrés Martín, Alain Fuertes and Rafa Botello.
